Covering a David Gray song has to be one of the biggest undertakings I have seen from an electronic artist. At first glance it seems nearly impossible, especially considering trying on one of his greatest off White Ladder (still my top 5 most cherished albums ever). Now, I wouldn’t say Amtrac’s rendition sounds remotely similar to DG’s original cut in most respects, besides the lyrics and inherent dreariness, but it does make me think, and many times, that’s what the purpose of this whole shibang is. Take a listen for yourself, but expect the unexpected. Cheers.
